PersonalMDs Insight #1:
Many issues can be resolved without an office or emergency room visit.
True story: The husband of a patient was in New Hampshire when he noticed a bite on his leg with spreading redness. He called his doctor's office and was told to go to the emergency room. His wife had a better idea. After sending photos via cell phone to her PersonalMDs doctor, the husband had an antibiotic prescription waiting at the pharmacy upon arrival. He later joined the practice.
PersonalMDs Insight #2:
Patients need an advocate in an increasingly complex medical system.
PersonalMDs doctors and staff help with all specialist appointments. We address your medical background with specialists prior to appointments in order to enhance care during your visit. The specialist notes are reviewed and the patient and PersonalMDs doctor frequently discuss the visit as well as any follow up care.
PersonalMDs Insight #3:
Preventative care is important, even when you think you don't need it.
True story: A 52 year old professional in superb physical condition recently underwent an “executive physical” at an out of town hospital. He had a family history of heart disease but passed a stress test and was told, “his heart was fine”. He later joined PersonalMDs and had his yearly check up. Given the family history his PersonalMDs doctor recommended a Coronary Calcium Score. Moderate coronary heart disease was detected, and additional preventive treatment was instituted.
PersonalMDs Insight #4:
Not every problem needs a pill.
True story: A patient suffered from insomnia and occasional daytime anxiety. His former doctor prescribed a sedative, which helped but made the patient tired and a little depressed. He was referred to our mind-body consultant who taught the patient a variety of techniques that worked wonders in reducing stress and enhancing sleep. He threw away his sedatives.
PersonalMDs Insight #5:
Global patients need global care.
True story: A 62 year old patient has a history of gout and bladder infections. In preparation for a trip overseas he received recommended vaccines in our office, as well as a personalized travel kit which included medications that might be needed given his medical history. While away he suffered a flair of gout. He emailed his PersonalMDs doctor and was given treatment recommendations, resulting in resolution of his overseas medical problem using medication on hand.
